Ahsan Manzil, Dhaka |
Ahsan Manzil |
Yesterday 1st of April we visited Ahsan Manzil. It is the palace of the Dhaka Nawab family. This magnificent building is situated in Waiz Ghat Bazar (Kumartoli), Old Dhaka along the bank of Buriganga River. The Pink Palace construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. In 1830, the French trading house of Kumartuli was purchased by the landlord of Dhaka Khwaja Alimullah. After some renovation work it became his residence. That time a stable and a family mosque was added in the compound. After his death, his son Khwaja Abdul Gani made a great flourish to the property and named it after his son Khaza Ahsan Ullah as "Ahsan Manjil". He did a great renovation work to the old building and in the east side of the old building made a new building with a different design. Since then, the new building was called "Rong mohol" and the old building was called "Ondor Mohol". Rong mohol building is used as a museum. This museum is well organized and maintained by Dhaka National Museum. In 1985, Dhaka National Museum acquired the property.
